Duck Races

Yesterday, Carter, Alex, and our friend Norma and I went to Deming for the Duck Race Parade and race. The parade was a typical southern New Mexico parade... lots of car clubs, lots of emergency vehicles, a few floats, a few candidates... a lot of watching vehicles drive by. I was so proud of Alex... while surrounding kids kind of pushed in front of him to get candy, and stepped in front of him to grab the candy that had fallen right in front of him to grab it before he could... he was polite and patient to get his candy. Carter enjoyed it for the most part, but we all got tired of all the cars in the car clubs... we just didn't have the patience to watch 30 cars driving by with their doors open and music blaring out of them.

We went to the races and had some barbecue and roasted corn, then Norma and Alex entered a duck in a "wet duck" race (which means the duck was on water. Alex seemed non-plussed by it all, Norma got her arm scratched up by the frantic duck, and it was over with in about 2 minutes. Still, it was fun to do something none of us had done before, and we got some kettle corn and headed home... where the boys were asleep before we hit the freeway.
