Carter has been learning how to "kiss". Really, it has progressed from him intentionally ramming his head into ours to make contact (thus earning him the nickname "Mallet Head"). to opening his mouth wide and trying to suck our lips off (which was only slightly more pleasant than the head butt).
He is starting to get the idea that a "kiss" means his mouth is closed, and he has to intentionally try to touch his lips to something... not just randomly attack the general face area. He was practicing with our incredibly patient dog, Guildie the other day. First touching his nose, then touching her nose, then letting her lick his face, then leaning forward to "kiss" her (open mouth - general attack strategy). He has also developed skill in "blowing a kiss"... or touching his hand to his face and throwing it at you on the goodbye.
Meanwhile, Alex is warming up to his brother a bit. He enjoys trying to get Carter to walk towards him, is really doing a great job showing him how to play with toys, and wants to kiss and hug him more.
Tonight at bedtime, Alex gave me my kiss and hug. I brought Carter over to where Alex was standing on the bed, so they were approximately the same height. Alex gave Carter a very gentle kiss on the forehead and an incredibly sweet hug. Carter looked up with his elated smile, and gently leaned over and gave his brother a kiss -- the good, closed mouth and intentionally aimed kind -- right on the cheek, then buried his head in Alex' chest.
It's like, even as I write this, I can hear all the readers collectively saying, "Aaaaahhhh!" Too adorable!
