As with many things, even though Alex has not seen the "Star Wars" movies, he knows of Darth Vader and has formed an opinion. In general, he's a fan, but he acknowledges that Darth Vader is "not a nice guy", but becomes a nice guy at the end.
His Aunt and cousins gave him a musical birthday card that plays the Darth Vader theme song and he *loved it*. All the way home from Albuquerque he played it, "scaring" Mommy by making her think Darth Vader was on the way. We heard about Darth Vader, and how much Alex wanted to go to his house, and that Darth Vader can come to Alex Party "Yeah, he can!".
We were concerned that some of the other preschoolers would be a little freaked out if the evil one just appeared at school today... instead, he came to our house just as Alex was eating his birthday pizza.
Always the thoughtful guest, Darth Vader brought a gift (an action figure of himself, the man is a master of his own promotion), and was very gentle with Alex, letting Alex make the first move, and talking to him in a very easy going voice. After a bit, Alex was shaking hands and posing for pictures, and wanted to take Darth Vader for a walk down the street to his friends' house. Alex was very kind as well, inviting Darth , (Mr. Vader?) to his birthday party, and playing his theme song for him. Alex was very pleased. In fact, when Nick, his very tall cousin, showed up just a little bit after Darth Vader left, Alex told him that he met Darth Vader and liked him. I think Nick was pleased since Nick is somewhat of a "Star Wars" fan himself.
We got some great photos, and I've posted them with some other shots of our recent trip to Albuquerque. We had a luxurious 4 days there, and hit the dinosaur museum, aquarium, mini golf, and Cliff's amusement park.
