He Knows Me

No parent wants to admit it, but really one of the nicest feelings is when your child is unhappy and they want you. It isn't that you want your child to be happy, but it is gratifying to know that you can make them happy or comforted or safe.

Carter knows my voice pretty well. It is nice to hear his hungry cry when someone else is holding him, and as soon as I walk up and start talking to him he stops crying... already he knows that my voice is the first step to getting what he wants! That feels good! It makes up for the rest of my body -- particularly the part that plays the largest role in giving him what he wants -- which doesn't feel so good.
